At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they got away with charging $55 for the shirts. Same idiots would buy them. Happy $117m down the shitter day everyone!
Once again, thank you Derek for an entertaining and informative read. A notable part for me was the mentioned recent bonus payout. I suggest that the amazing amounts of cash people can feel entitled to for their ‘work’ has been the death knell for many a crowdfunded project.
So we wait for SQ42 (With some unspecified chance of total failure before it is released). How can people honestly have hope that it would be any good – the ‘have faith’ argument advanced a lot of the time. For SQ42 to have a hope of being good you would have to believe that a substantial amount of content is being hidden even if release is mid 2017. Face it folks, it will be shit. And if you think people have been complaining about SC up to now, well the floodgates open for real on commercial release of Chris’s movie.
Alternatively they can string along backers a la star marine but for how long? Well in the spirit of the recent and issue riddled “Star Citizen AA Trolls and $100 Millon[sic]” where we are provided a few calculations, I will give my own numbers. With a reasonable burn rate of $3m over 3 years we get $3m*36= $108m. Arbitrarily set the start to mid 2014. Then consider certain funding sinks outside that burn rate (vs sources aside from backers which are simply overwhelmed) then your out of luck next year. This is why those who say 2018/19/20+ are amusing.
To any shitizens out there I have good news!
It seems some people in Canada went to the trouble of simulating the future of Star Citizen. Admittedly it was scaled down somewhat with the most expensive package at $274.99, but on the other hand they did promise the world (literally).
I recommend initial reading about it to be done here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ReRoll/
Highlights include – “Holy shit. Store page is still active, but their website, forums, Twitter accounts are all gone. The fuck is happening?” and how one year ago funding status was described as complete.
Seriously though there were as others are saying red flags about this project and I totally see Star Citizen going the same way. Store up, everything else gone and then after a short while the store goes too. No refunds.
A somewhat tough choice on deciding which scenario is playing out here – incompetent design, cash grab (due to impending failcascade) or both? (any fee is likely above actual cost.) Looking forward to finding out!
That article..holy shit.
“trolling” Ah, I see it was written mid 2013, when saying SC wouldn’t be commercially released Nov 2014 – early 2015 was trolling.
“refrain from continually posting about games you don’t like!” Sure, nobody ever said ‘nobody warned me!’
“Obviously anyone with half a brain can see that it’s a hardcore space sim” + “bleeding edge aesthetics” Press USE and buy underpants. You will need them when the space suit doesn’t render.
“trolls … about Star Citizen’s pre-order ship offerings” Those damn trolls again. How can buying jpegs go wrong?
“upper middle class adults with stable income and significant reserves” + “This is money that exists in a household budget purely for whimsical purchases.” Sure. Those steam reviews where people lose their shit over games worth less then $10 are figments of my imagination.
“money well spent” I guess so, but unlike Chris I think Capri is overrated. Monaco is fun though.
An excellent read to break up TOS change fun. It is an excellent summary of how Chris is burning bridges, how people now reap the harvest from their previous lack of due diligence and how beyond hope Chris actually is. haha Hey Chris, did your rambling statement to AMD take you 8 hours to write up just like your other missive of lol? Anyway how messed up is the organization at CIG? I know experience may vary, but I had the pleasure of previously working at a company ‘not doing so well’ and marketing were still able to take calls, answer emails and even send out new promotional material!
Where, oh where could the ‘snowflake’ tag have come from? All we have to go on is if any CIG staff had been unprofessional enough to use the term in direct communication to a customer. But surely that is impossible…right?
Seriously though, how amusing the shitizens were on this one. They seemed to divide into 2 main groups.
1. It is all lies! The old reliable shitizen defense shield against reality. A key step here is to not make any attempt to check if it is true.
2. It does not matter! How fortunate! I will be saying the same thing when you are raging about getting your money back when CIG goes bust.
It is incredible.
Chris is sailing around Italy and then off to Monaco (Seriously? Yeah, no spending money there except for um charity work) while at the same time CIG has pulled out of E3.
Shitizens then shit on E3, talk about patience etc. There is no hope for those people.
