I am posting something straight from the goon forums, but is actually not a “goon”… Very juicy. I purposely left this post vague to make it harder on CIG’s interns.
I wrote a long post and then deleted it. Its turning into Custers last stand and I just don’t want to get people in trouble . I have already said to much I reckon and if people get in the poo poo because of whats discussed here and the very obvious source then that is nothing but bad.
I can highlight some stuff in bullet points but nothing at Derek Smart level of excitement
– A couple of very public faces have left CIG UK right under everyone’s noses. This may be out there already . You will know who if you check ATV and all that bollocks and then see who doesn’t appear anymore. Not actual game developers just CS monkeys but significant none the less. The old adage poo poo rolls down hill is never so true when you are involved with CIG … B4TBG email exchange is still causing fallout … and all the wrong people are getting blamed
– I know what they are currently concentrating on , it is simply unbelievable . I cant say what it is for obvious reasons but it is up there with the farming module. talk about fiddling while Rome burns …..
– All the jobs being advertised are legit and they are getting really desperate now to fill those positions. However they just cant and Mr Smart’s blogs are being cited as the reason. if anyone is interested they are paying above industry standard but you might only have the job for another 12 months at best.
– The whole animation system is simply hosed. You are looking at a team of very competent animators working flat out for a year or two to get anything working properly.
– Sq42 looks absolutely stunning (The space bits) FP stuff looks like a PS1 game and no one seems to give a poo poo. However it is not a game, there is no game play or direction. Nothing just amazing graphics in an editor. The whole thing is in a constant state of flux and a dev cycle that was already floundering is now totally FUBARED because the emperor himself is taking a hand in it personally. Some big news outlets have been in there recently doing all sorts of walk around’s and interviews.
– All the hilarity and fallout from 10ftc, Starmarine being cancelled and the reddits etc have caused absolutely no concern whatsoever. Literally no one gives a gently caress. The attitude is , ‘ Its just noise let them have their fun we know better’. Chris in particular is totally detached from it allThe other stuff I cant talk about at the moment because it will be so obvious where its coming from
Derek will probably know about this already, unless he fell behind again. I am posting this for the semi-convenience of this forum’s readers. Hope you enjoyed.
Is it actually true Star Marine was around $20 million? Damn. Must have been only $8 million originally, but with Chris’ habit of redoing things pointlessly, it tripled.
What’s funny is that Star Marine may be the first straw that wakes people up. Not the loss of story based drop in-out coop, Chris or Ortwin’s replies to the Escapist, or Sandi’s email to Beer (all major warning signs). Though I still have doubts that it will do more than annoy a few moderators for a week.
Everyone that wanted out either got their refund, or failed and were denied, and likely forum banned or put on a watch list to be banned as soon as they speak up. After all, one regular poster on this forum is permabanned for no reason, and I suspect the reddit will apply to have him shadowbanned asap. I guarantee that if I identify myself, CIG will put me on a watchlist to ban as soon as I give them the tiniest excuse. I already lost a former acquaintance, Seria. We both supported LTI for everyone. Just imagine how much crap we got.
There is no end to the corruption at CIG. It is still possible for the completionist whales to finance this ponzi scheme until at least March easily. I remain curious what sales attempts will be made to guarantee survival from April to June. The corvette won’t have a sale anytime soon. Which means Esperia Prowler at the very least.
I will continue to be amused by deranged cultists like real_lethality who spent at least $1000. Our pledge is a donation, blah blah blah. These idiots deserve what’s coming.
And the circle comes back to the biggest early warning signs. As a refresher, it started with associate producer Travis Day leaving around 6/26/15. Shortly afterwards, executive producer Alex Mayberry left, with the only info I could find being May 13, 2014 to June 2015. Then Derek Smart was refunded in July 2015. Once all these events happened, in that little time frame, all my warning flags were tripped.
As if my suspicions weren’t already triggered with the return of LTI, the Constellation Taurus LTI pricing, and sudden silence about the original Xian Khartu.
Now, we watch to see how many people bail out to protect their reputations. I feel sorry for the honest people at CIG that wanted to make the best space sim. They tried, but Chris just ruins all of their efforts with his egotistical mush mouth.
I know Derek is aware of the specifics of many things, and eagerly await the day he has the opportunity to reveal those specific details.
Aside from a whole lot of thrown out work… Star Marine was never that cool as a concept. Crysis did it way back in 2007. Very fun, but was only officially done in single player, and thus, got old. From the beginning of walking with gravity, then a sudden jump into the air and floating around, and getting lost in a few tunnels, shooting, hiding, and dodging nimble aliens. Some items or debris could be used as makeshift cover after being shot and budged around. Star Citizen is late and way buggy as hell.
Oh, and I learned that Hotsauce ShoTYME was permabanned from CIG forums for asking about DX12 and Engine Rewrite. I saw that thread way back then, but I did not realize who it was until 2 days ago. Of course, Ben says some crap, closes the thread, then bans a critic.
I am using Firefox. If I click the quote button next to the reply, the address link I get is http://www.dereksmart.org/forums/topic/general-discussions/#2326 and does not quote anything, and is treated as a new, separate reply once I submit.
Anyways, it’s not a major issue. Will just work around it as usual.
EDIT: This post was meant to be a quote/reply to #2317
The new features I noticed are:
- Notify me of follow-up replies via email – have not used
- Quote reply button – does not work, tried it for this post
- Go to first unread post – does not work on first login, sometimes works after edit
- Recent and older posts are still out of order by date
The forum plugin just doesn’t want to behave. Still, thank you for spending your weekend trying to fix the forums. On the unintentional side of this specific reply, recent posts now are at the top. Hopefully things work going forward.
@ J HOW
Thank you for sharing. Unfortunately, this whole scaling up issue is a problem of feature creep from the original backer days. SC was specifically stated to NOT be a MMO (FAQ near bottom of KS page). So, many gamers (in my case an amateur modder) thought CryEngine defaults were just fine. CIG has smart people, like the folks from Crytek at the CIG Frankfurt office.
The problem is… those Frankfurt personnel joined the project really-really late, by July 6, 2015. I do not think it is a coincidence that Derek was forcefully refunded by July 14, 2015. 8 days or so… to reduce negative noise and buy lots of time for redoing the engine.
@ Derek
Something today, broke the date or chronological sorting of forum posts. You might want to find out the issue because reading stuff is extra difficult now. If your forum software can implement a “recent posts” feature, that would help too.
Alpha 2.1.1 patch has hit Live. Uh oh, still stuck at 16 players. So much for a MMO.
To celebrate Gillian Anderson’s return to X-Files, the Xian Khartu is back on sale. Nothing to do with Star Citizen, but hey, more money is needed.
Of course, the Xian Scout has had nearly zero progress since its initial sale back in Nov 26, 2013. Whatever footage of it that existed back in June 20, 2014, was during its 2nd concept sale. CIG may be attempting to treat the Xian ship as new, or not worked-on stuff. Ha ha ha.
As a re-reminder, the previous Aegis sale was Alpha 2.1 patch on Jan 15. Just one week goes by, and CIG starts to sell one of their more “rare” JPEGs.
At this rate, they may try to get in one sale per patch to Live. Gotta keep the dream (ponzi scheme) alive as long as possible. I feel slightly sad there are so many idiots in this world.
