      “<span style=”box-sizing: border-box; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.992157);”>Word is, there no longer ANY (that we know of) experienced producers in the RSI/CIG US studios who have ever shipped a game.”</span>

Now Derek, yot even you can deny that Chris Roberts 1) works in RSI/CIG US studio and 2) has shipped a number of games, as everything from programmer to producers. Sure it was a long time ago, but that statement is just not true.

And I’m sad to see him go, I liked that guy. He seemed to be perfect combination of serious/not-so-serious. As usual we’ll probably never get the full story behind the departure, maybe it was just another case of “focusing production to LA and he didn’t want to move” like WingMan, which was a much harder blow i.m.o. From what I gather the reason they built that huge new office location in LA was to take in the people from Austin, like Sean Tracy for example (going back to your statement that Austin is getting shut down).

Also, a question regarding your statement in Twitter that it “<span style=”color: #292f33; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; line-height: 22px; white-space: pre-wrap; background-color: #f5f8fa;”>would be hilarious to even consider that the collapse of a $100M+ project was down to one person.</span>” – in that discussion that one person was you. But couldn’t that argument just as easily be made about Chris? Your attacks are mostly on Chris and blaming him for the demise of the project and he’s just one person? I totally get what toy meant by your comment though and one would like to add “one person, not even employed at CIG” to your statement (Twitter char limit I guess).

Just to be on the right side of the facts – Ben clearly denied he ever stated that (https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/6176447/#Comment_6176447)

Then again, he only denied he ever said/wrote it, he didn’t deny that it could happen which was the actual question or took the opportunity to state their intentions for the long haul of covering infrastructure costs etc. …

@MDrake SC , still no refund? That actually makes me sad. Because I thought CIG was “owning up” to not living up to everyones expectation, and now that they blew past $100 million I thought they could lower the bar of what’s required to get a refund.

At the same time, you have to remember that no game developer would give you your money back any more easily than CIG! I had to fight for my refund for the new Deus Ex game when they launched their bullshit website to get more preorders. Eventually I got a refund, and they publically admitted “we fucked up!”. What I’m trying to say is getting a refund is by no means a consumer right you have after the two weeks (I think?) “no questions asked”-refund time period is up. If you’re a Kickstarter backer, like myself and Derek was, you may have a case though.

But I really do hope you get your refund!

Regarding this entire inventory lists, I find that rather petty to be honest. Yes, CIG said all money would go to game development, but questioning their choice of lamps as too expensive? Really? How’s that any different than the gargantuan Orc statue outside Blizzard’s HQ in Irvine which has the same purpose – “we have money!”. If you follow the money trail it all comes from the people playing their games and monthly subscribing to them, it’s no different. We give CIG money to make a game the same way we pay Blizzard to play the games they’ve made. Who here gets do decide what can be labeled as going to “game development”? I mean, coders need coffee – so why not bring in the best coffee machine? Designers need light, why not buy the best lamp? It’s just petty so sit on the sidelines looking at every frame from their offices and putting price tags on their inventory and it really should be beneath this entire argument.

I don’t have the figures of what their Santa Monica studio cost in rent, considering the location it should’ve been rather expensive and one can hope that’s why they built a new office. Because in my head I was screaming “wtf you doing? trying to get 2.0 as bug free out as possible AND moving offices!? when I heard about it”. But this is another one of the unknown that might get public of Derek gets his will. Another thing that might get public is Derek’s statement of the Roberts buying a new house and cars with backers money, that’s a really serious accusation and if true might very well ruin all reputation that’s left. And it’d certainly tip me over to ask for a refund – if it’s really true.

Speaking of Derek’s statements – we’re down to 3 weeks left on the clock of Dereks guaranteed CIG bankruptcy , while CIG are 1 year overdue with “Wing Commander’s spiritual sucessor”.

I have to admin I wasn’t fully paying attention to the livestream, I was too busy playing a fully working game 🙂 , but did he really promise a full PU release in 2016? not just alpha or beta or something, but an honest to god ready for market PU release in 2016?

If he did he’s bonkers. But the sad truth of today is that alot of people, from politicians, to CEO’s to game developers are replacing “intent” with “promise”. I can fully buy his intentions are to release it in 2016, the same as any CEO’s intention is that their stocks will rise and politician that he will win this election or any new startup being “industry leading”. Call it posturing, anti-FUD or whatever you will, but noone wants to back a losing horse.

Not saying it’s ok, just that yes it’s a promise and one that will go down as another broken promise of this project but not something that’ll convince me he’s the devil or evil schemer you’re portraying him to be.

This is why I would suck if I ever tried the stock market for real – it’s so driven by speculation and posturing and a single unsubstantiated rumor of a company having problems can sink the stock value that I just couldn’t stand it. Like the recent “crisis” a few months ago when problems in China (combined with Marting “the forecaster” Armstrong having predicted a collapse of China in late 2015) made the stock markets go bananas and I lost like 10% of my savings in a week. And then .. nothing, and now everything is back up to where it was before and I’m left wondering “what was facts and what was FUD”. And the same goes on here, CIG is posturing and promising 2.0 “soon(tm)” while Derek is speading the FUD.

And just to be clear – when I say “I expect it in 2020 and fine with that”, I mean the full PU with the planets, landing zones and ships flyable, not SQ42 which really should be out in _aleast_ beta stage in 2016. I fully realise that’s 2 years after their Kickstarter estimate of Nov 2014 but I don’t have a problem with that. Kind of like I didn’t have a problem when Blizzard delayed “Diablo 3” for 2 more years (and took another 2 years to make it actually good).

By the way, a tip to the webmasters of this place – the design for the forum is completely fubar on mobile devices! Replies gets indented all the time so Derek’s reply showed one character per row. And I’m not used to reading vertically, so you may want to check up on that 🙂

I have as little information to make that statement as Derek has (publically available, i.e not “trust me”) to make his prediction the company will blow up and crumble by January 6th next year.

The only thing we have are the available facts – they have $95 million of crowdfunded money. Beyond that, according to them, they have subscriber’s money (that sponsor the YouTube videos) and sponsordeals that pays for marketing. Add to that the additional millions that is gonna roll in in the next few months and the sale of SQ42 if it comes out next year (of which they’ve already sold about 1 million copies so not sure how much more they can make off of that) … And when comparing to other major AAA titles their completely on track (I just wish they’d stop saying otherwise). But that’s if you believe everything that everyone tells you (for all we know, that crowdfunding counter may be completely bogus).

Point is, as thing stands right now, with lack of evidence to the contrary, I’m chosing to go with the people that knows their financials, rather than Derek who has presented 1 single fact about their financials (the publically available F42 financial reports which says nothing to me).

But you’re right, I don’t have any insider information on that. Derek might have – we don’t know.

Mdrake: It wasn’t my intention to make you waste your time because I honestly do want to know if this was another downright lie from CIG (of which there have been a few) or if it was another truth-twisting story from Derek (of which there have been a few as well).

The “sneak peak” does indeed insunuate it’s new stuff we haven’t seen before and in my case it actually was, but I guess their standard is “stuff that may seem new”. But if you watched the Lando interview on INN you’ll understand that it was about lowering the quality of “sneak peek” because it turns out some people only watched it for that segment! “So let’s make it bad” is basically what he said.

As you can get from the way I write, I feel stuck in the middle. I see CIG slightly fucks up, Derek is there to exaggerate, maybe twist the truth a bit and glote over it as the internet warlord he is. Derek makes a valid point and CIG delivers a 2.0 presentation that looked awesome. It just goes back and forth like this all the time. It really is annoying. I wish I could say I have no allegiance, but my high admiral status on RSI forum would make me a liar I guess. But I’m not blind, I see the fuckups they do with offering LTI again, the M50 debacle. But I’ll give you points for the lack of Vanduul though, hadn’t considered that. I’m more looking at the “we have ONE finished landing zone, out of what, 100?” and going “this is gonna be a while”. But I’m not dying of any terminal disease (other than normal aging) so I can wait a while. But I’ll be damned if I contribute to the projects demise, atleast without some good, solid facts.

MDrake : I still fail to see where anyone from CIG said or wrote that this is NEW footage? Disco said right there on reddit it’s OLD footage? I don’t get how they can get flak for trying to pass off an old video as a new when I fail to see where they say it’s new? Yeah, it was “sneak peak” but that doesn’t say it’s totally new? How many times have we seen the hangar remix in the sneak peak? So my objection to this argument stands until someone can show me anyone from CIG saying that this is supposed to be new footage.
