Nothing to get apoplectic about. Personally, I’d rather have my money go directly to the development of the game. So if they find some way to reduce infrastructure costs, I say drop your linen and keep on shillin’.

The more interesting question: Is Time-Warner a candidate to bail them out if they run out of money?

When there is insufficient factual information to go on, you get nutcases on both sides of the issue.  They get further and further polarized, and isolate themselves into communities that share common views and block out any evidence to the contrary.  I mean, you have to admit:  Investing money in something and then hoping for it to fail seems a bit irrational.

Then again, cherry-picking evidence that suits you, while ignoring evidence that doesn’t (confirmation bias), is a very natural tendency.

Most people can’t wait to see this game fail?  I read it on this forum, so it must be true 🙂

It looks like they’re still pulling in $500k per week.  How much of that is from one-time sales?  They need to establish a sustainable stream of recurring revenue if they want to survive.

The way I look at it, they are employing a lot of people who are working their butts off trying to deliver the game.  The backer money keeps these people employed and able to feed their families.  That’s why I decided against asking for a refund.  If there are improprieties going on, that’s unfortunate, but I haven’t seen anything yet that would suggest that they are not genuinely trying to deliver on their promises.

If I had a crazy amount of money invested in the game, maybe I’d get this worked up about it too.  As with any crowd funded project, there is a good chance that it will fail and you will lose your money.  That’s why I only invested a small amount.  If it works out, great.  If it doesn’t, I won’t lose any sleep over it.

When there is a lack of real information, conspiracy theories and paranoid delusions take over.  What’s next, claims of secret offshore accounts and money laundering?  I don’t care about the noise and unsubstantiated rumours floating around the net.  What I do care about is that the promised game won’t come to fruition unless they can sustain their current level of development for much longer then their burn rate seems to allow for.  That part of what Derek is saying makes total sense to me.

Are they in over their heads?  Maybe.  Is it a scam?  I don’t really see how.  Even the “disgruntled” ex-employees didn’t claim that.  If you look at the facts objectively, it should be obvious that they are truly working hard on trying to deliver the game as promised.  Emphasis on “trying”.
