Star Marine wasn’t cut LOL that’s the funniest thing. You are a real joker.  This must be a goon troll.

Star marine was a standalone FPS module for testing mechanics.  This module was two weeks away for months until suddenly it wasn’t.  In the 10 ftc video, CR clearly said he believed Star Marine was in the PU already and a standalone module was not needed. This is a classic bait and switch.

As far as Sandy goes. People may not have backed if they understood that unqualified people were running the show due to nepotism.

Hotshot makes a good point, I would also add Derek predicted they would stop giving refunds and try to release something buggy quickly to void the refund terms, after PTU 2.0, they said it was significant release and no refunds.  He also said they would be cutting features, and shortly later Star Marine is cut, and I’m not sure what happened to Sata Ball.  He also brought up the fact that CR was married to Sandi Gardener, and that Sandi did not have the degrees she claimed.  Those are just some of the “facts” you seem to have overlooked.

Bill, Derek is trying to wake people up. Most of the people post here because the main forums and Reddit were a bit toxic to anyone who had doubts. With each delay and bait and switch (Star Marine) the doubters are shown to be more and more correct.

He didn’t make the video to impress you dirt. The world does not revolve around you.

I get your point, there are bad things about backer money, but he put effort in, and you just called it moronic shit.

That video of the timeline, i did not watch to the end, but i did not see it mention that Development of Shenmue did not  last until 2006. It was released on dreamcast in 1999 according to the disk I have, NA in 2000 I think. Also yes, dev started in 94 on a Sega Saturn game based on the idea of a virtua fighter rpg, but dev for this was scrapped, and the development was rebranded Project Berkley and moved to dreamcast some time later.  Shenmue 2 came out shortly after in Japan and Europe but did not reach NA shores until xbox.  Shenmue was such a financial failure that development stopped on shenmue 3 until kickstarter financing. Also, as a side note, Shenmue is my favorite game of all time.

              That chart is very dishonest.

“If you’ve followed a project to make a AAA game in incomplete alpha for 6 months and felt you needed to “get out” and sold your ships, then you really shouldn’t sign up for a project like this again because you’re a part of the problem with open development!”

@Kristoffer he said he sold his ships, which means the money did not leave the system the way a refund would have. Also, he said he observed the forums and gathered info before making the decision. that sounds responsible to me.

I think it is important to remember that one man is not going to take the project down by writing a blog, if the project fails, then the project was doomed already. This means that it is wrong to be angry at D Smart for pointing out concerns.
