I’d like to see a picture of a ship crashing into the sun.  Oh, and the entity is a “picture of a ship” not to be mistaken for a picture of “a ship crashing into the sun”.  Hard to credit CIG with even creating ships–what is there are assets waiting for a game.

I knew that I had heard minimal viable product before with another fiasco.  How could I forget.  It was like a torch was passed from Russ Bullock to Chris Roberts back in that 2012.  I believe it was the summer of 2012 when PGI made the announcement they would be releasing the minimal viable product for MechWarrior Online.  PGI and MWO got skewered for the announcement.

Maybe a silver lining.  MWO is still with us, four years later.   Interesting to compare the two games and the reactions from the backers.  The F2P MWO by CIG standards has some very affordable mechs.   Something like $5 to $15 a mech.  Hindsight makes me wonder if PGI shouldn’t have been charging a fortune.  Seems once folks get $500+ into a project they sure don’t want to admit when things are looking bleak.

Well the BDSSE has grown to the BDMVSSE.   CIG speak of course.  The Best Damn Space Sim Ever has expanded and grown to a lesser product—the Best Damn Minimally Viable Space Sim Ever!

A quick check of the forums and you’ll learn it is what CR has been telling backers they will get since 2012.  Nothing has changed….  **puts hands over ears***  **chanting lalalalala***  Everything is going to be peachy!  Spring is here.  Don’t go to the beach.  Don’t make that car payment this month.  Go buy a $340 spaceship.  That coffee service in Santa Monica isn’t going to pay for itself!

More telling.  The 10 for the Chairman Q&A sessions are history.  Just like the stretch goals, someone must have pointed out to CR that week after week he was talking about all this stuff that was going to be in his game.  Now after two years of Q&A with nothing to show, either CR decided the hole he has dug is deep enough or the finances are such that production needs to be curtailed.

In the grand scheme–a great way to get fired.  Who would want to get fired from their dream job?!  Or, and not to get too tinfoilly, wonder to yourself a few things.  Do you think Jared has seen enough stuff that if he were to talk with a journalist or allowed to post on Reddit with no restrictions that it would have an impact on shitizen confidence?  Back in 2014, CIG was writing some fairly large checks to folks in Austin that were shown the door.  The checks came with a fat legal document that boiled down to “say only nice things about all things Star Citizen or pay the money back.”.

If you knew the shitball rolling down hill was just getting bigger and faster–do you want to stick around until the shitball comes to a crashing halt?  Or maybe jump off before the ride ends?  And if you wanted to jump off, wouldn’t it be nice to have a stack of cash to cushion that landing?

Total fantasy.  But viable.  If the writing is indeed on the wall, might as well exit stage left while the theatre is still standing, especially if you are given a fat check at the door to keep your mouth shut.  Thirty-eight jobs Jared mentioned having?  He is, what 45 to 50?  That is more than a job a year.  My hunch is that not only is Jared excellent at finding work, but he is just as good at getting un-hired.

Super exciting!!  VIP Alpha!  Early, Early Access!

Psssttt!  You got the cash?  I got a super secret test spot for you!  Alpha testing is for the peons.  Give us some cash and we will let you through the velvet rope…

Oh and if folks wanted something to complain to the FTC about–this will probably work out.  The “common man” is going to associate alpha testing with the earliest phase.  Creating a subset, from a hand picked grouped, depending on how worded–certainly makes the initial offer of “be an alpha tester” turn into a bit of bait and switch/deceptive advertising (https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/advertising-faqs-guide-small-business).

80 episodes * 10 questions for 800 questions asked and answered.  Is there a flag for which of the answers have been implemented?

Seriously, out of 800 questions, has even one of the been delivered to the backers?  I bet I know the answer!  If the question has to do with spending money, say something along the lines of ship sale–that answer has come to true.  Just as I’m sure that any answer dealing with gameplay has not, and will never, see the light of day.  Persistence has been right around the corner since the Wingman’s Hangar days.  If I remember correctly, the Austin team was testing persistence and allowing others to visit your hangar back in 2014.

In my exuberance last night, I forgot the main question I wanted to ask–Tell me again how Derek was banned from Star Citizen?  Where was he hyping LoD?  If I remember the details correctly–not only had Derek never posted on the forums, but he had never even downloaded the alpha.  I had always thought he was the first person banned for impure thoughts/not the right kind of toxic for the community.
