As I mentioned in my coverage, it's basically "We dindu nuffin'"

Star Citizen isn't a game. It's a TV show about a bunch of characters making a game. It's basically "This is Spinal Tap" - except people think the band is real.

Are you talking about this Scaleform license comment?

If so, it's a non-issue. Don't pay any attention to that nonsense.

As per the GLA, CIG still has a valid CE3 license which includes a Scaleform license via CE3. Since Scaleform works in CE3, my guess is that they probably rigged it to work in Lumberyard due to the similarities between both CE3 and Lumberyard (read this and scroll down to where I used Ben Parry's graphic).

And it's perfectly normal and legal for them to have done that.

The biggest issue is the core of the lawsuit because CE3 gave them a license to Scaleform which is derived from Crytek's license with Scaleform; but for a single game (Star Citizen). This is similar to all the free third-party tech in UE4 that devs don't have to pay for because Epic pays the vendor for the license to use them in UE4. That license is then passed along to devs as a sub-license.

Star Citizen isn't a game. It's a TV show about a bunch of characters making a game. It's basically "This is Spinal Tap" - except people think the band is real.

OP updated

The judge has firmed up the dates for the conclusion of discovery and the trial. 2020 is going to be very interesting, especially since SQ42 is totally coming out around that same time. :emot-lol:

They're also going to take one more stab at a settlement (which CIG tried before, but Crytek wasn't interested).

Watching the special Guard Frequency episode in which you, Derek Smart, state that the brothers Yerli, who are Turkish nationals, aren't looking for a cash payout. They want BLOOD!

BoredGamer just released a video about CIG and Crytek settling. Anyone else seen it?

Interesting. It seems Skadden aren't going to be taking our jpegs away after all. Is the ELE still happening or has the ELE now had its own ELE before the original ELE could actually play out? I don't think it has ever been explained, precisely, which event, or events, were to cause the extinction anyway.

Was there ever an event that actually happened to cause extinction, or was that hot air from a flatulent blow hole?

So what's the next big hope for the collapse of CI? Sued into oblivion by Crytek appears to have been a false hope.

Next big hope, is they simply run out on money anyway...probably at year 2021, but it depends on:

1) is investor ready to throw more money at SC
2) success or failure of SQ42...

According to some, they've been running out of money for over three years, I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon. They'll be able to get investment if required, as easily as they managed it last time. The amount of money they've received, before releasing a game, would make investors eyes spin. How many game dev companies make money before releasing their games?

Squadron success will be fascinating. It wouldn't take a massive amount of sales to make a significant difference. A total flop could well be disastrous though.

Anyway, this is the lawsuit thread. Is it dead now? Anyone still expecting discovery to go ahead?
