Hello,
let me introduce myself. Im a 36 year old gamer from Germany. Usually i play only E-Sport titles and strategy games. My main game is starcraft 2. I got into starcitizen because i liked the wing commander games when i was younger and i wanted to get a game where i can really relax a little bit (playing starcraft multiplayer is really hard work.....). I cashed into starcitizen after i had read Dereks first blog about the game. I completly disagreed with his opinion and backed the game. Now i have to say that i mad a mistake. I followed all his blogs and i dont think evereything what he says is correct, but the main message that Starcitizen will fail is correct.
I play games for 30 years now. I started playing PC games when i was 6 years old. I know much about gaming and i have some knowledge about game development in general. I am still shocked that i backed a game like starcitizen and didnt saw this desaster coming. I dont know if they still have enough money to finish the game but what i see is really bad.
My main reasons for quitting the game are the following:
- Arena Commander is buggy and i dont like the controls. The flight model is not fun for me and the ships have strange animations. Oh and the game has the worst sound effects i ever heard in a space combat game.
- Star Marine is a big joke. Its full of bugs and the animations are total crap. Everey other modern first person shooter has better mechanics. It is not that hard to build at least a solid shooter today. But they fucked it up as usual.
- No signs of Sqadron 42 since Citizen Con 2015. I didnt see one gameplay video untill today.
- Nearly every presentation crashes or gets delayed. I have really no problem if there are sometimes technical problems. This also happened at Blizzcons. But CIG fucks up everey presentation with something. I see no progression when they are doing presentations. The worst one was Gamescon 2017. This was the worst presentation i have ever seen for a so called triple AAA game.
- 3.0 got delayed over 1 year. To me its clear that they didnt have a working 3.0 Version at 2016 and that Chris Roberts lied.
Im sorry Derrek that i first thought you wehre just trolling CIG but you are right in most of the points you mentoined in your blogs. The only thing Starctizen has is some visual fidelety. Thats it. Im happy that i got my refund of 450€ and that im out of this crap show.
Welcome to the forum. Your reasons a very valid, and are the same for many people.
Some people were quick to say that I was a hater, that I wanted to see the project fail etc; despite the fact that I have CLEARLY documented WHY I felt they simply could NOT build the game they promised. But of course, because I'm just an indie dev, and not some bit developer or publisher, those guys were just quick to attack me. Forgetting that the reason that I am 100% QUALIFIED to make such an assessment is because, to date, I'm only living developer who has ever attempted a game of such scope, and managed to actually DO IT.
Though the Battlecruiser/Universal Combat games didn't have FPS inside stations and capital ships - that's the ONLY feature missing from those games. In fact, that's why I released the 2009 game on Steam back in 2015, did a patch for it. Then when I got a massive response, I decided to improve on it via DLC (as I mentioned in my
latest dev update, I plan on doing 4 of them) instead of spending a lot of money and time on a full blown sequel.
I backed Star Citizen because I felt that with their money and ability to hire top talent, that they could pull off the BC/UC type of simulation games, at a high production quality and visual fidelity. Then Croberts lost his mind, and subsequently killed the project.
